How can climate finance better support equitable and effective climate action in South Africa and beyond?

On 17 February 2026, ClimateFiGS and the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI) at the University of Cape Town brought together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss key challenges and opportunities in climate finance. Discussions explored climate finance tracking, barriers facing municipalities and other subnational actors, alternatives to project-based approaches, the role of private finance, and emerging research and policy priorities.

The result was a rich exchange of perspectives and a report that synthesises key insights and recommendations for improving climate finance access, delivery, and impact in South Africa and beyond.
